Mike has wished his constituents a very happy Jubilee weekend.
The Diamond Jubilee marks the Queen’s celebration of 60 years as Monarch. Tuesday 5th June has been designated as a special public holiday. With the Spring Bank Holiday on Monday 4th June, it has resulted in a special four day weekend. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne on 6th February 1952 following the death of her father, King George VI. The only other British monarch to celebrate a Diamond Jubilee was Queen Victoria in 1897.
The weekend will see a number of events hosted around the country, including dozens of street parties across Brighton & Hove. There will also be a once-in-a-lifetime Thames river pageant on Sunday 3rd June, where over 1,000 boats, including a Royal barge, will form a magnificent flotilla.
Commenting, Mike said: “The Diamond Jubilee is a fantastic national holiday. I know that many residents have applied for street parties across the city and I hope that everyone who is taking part or having private celebrations of their own has a wonderful weekend. There is an impressive amount of bunting around which is brilliant at getting everyone in the mood for a fun-packed weekend.”
