Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has met with staff and children from the Brighton & Hove-based child safety charity, Safety Net, to discuss bullying.

At the meeting, representatives of Safety Net briefed Mike on bullying prevention and the safety work that they carry out in the city. A number of children who have worked with Safety Net now advise the charity in the form of a Kids Board. A group of children explained to Mike the importance of being heard and knowing that adults will take action about childrens safety concerns. Mike pledged to help them to raise awareness about the serious effects of bullying and the importance of listening to children. Commenting, Mike said: I was extremely impressed by the great work that Safety Net is involved with across Brighton & Hove. Speaking with the young people who have been involved with the charity was particularly enlightening. They are doing a tremendous job to address bullying in schools and raising awareness of the issue generally.

Kai, one of the young people who met Mike, said: To have an MP visit and take time to answer our questions makes me feel our important work trying to keep other children safe is being recognised.
