Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has submitted his support for a new seafront plinth for temporary art and sculptures.
Hove Civic Society is behind the novel idea for a plinth on Hove’s unique seafront, which will showcase, in one of the most prominent spots in the city, work by both famous artists as well as upcoming local talent. The society hopes that the plinth will become a focal point for inspiration and will make residents proud. For more information, visit www.hovecivicsociety.org.
Helmut Lusser, the society’s Chairman, was keen to have the support of Hove’s MP, and Mike was very happy to oblige. In his letter of support to Hove Civic Society, Mike said: “A prominent public space for sculpted work to be displayed is an excellent idea as Hove has a fantastic array of artistic talent. I believe that a Hove plinth would be a great way of building a strong sense of civic pride whilst creating an exciting and engaging attraction for Hove seafront.”
Commenting, Mike said: “Like the popular plinth in Trafalgar Square, I know that residents and tourists alike would flock to see this interesting attraction. A great bonus is that the temporary nature of the installations will ensure that it remains relevant in the future.”
