Conservative Group Leader, Cllr. Geoffrey Theobald, has commented on the threats by the GMB Union to break off all talks with the Council should contingency plans be put in place to ameliorate the impact on residents of any further strike action.
Cllr. Theobald said: “First of all, I hope very much that City Clean workers don’t vote to go out on strike as I don’t believe it is the most constructive way to resolve a dispute. However if, as seems likely, strike action does happen, then I think that residents would expect their Council to have contingency plans in place to ensure that rubbish is not left piling up on the streets, particularly given all the disruption they have already suffered. It is even more important at this time of year when the weather is hotting up and the city is full of visitors.”
