Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is delighted to be supporting his colleague James Wharton MP, who is introducing a Private Members’ Bill which, if not stopped becoming law by Labour and the Liberal Democrats, will mean that the British people will have an in/out vote on whether Britain stays in the EU in 2017.
Currently, only one of the main three political parties believes the British people deserve a say on the EU: the Conservatives. This bill will need the support of either Labour or Lib Dem MPs to pass. Some issues are bigger than party politics – It’s time to Let Britain Decide. Commenting, Mike said: “The EU has drastically changed, yet it’s been nearly 40 years since the British people have had a say on our relationship with Europe. We need a new settlement and the people should then have their say on a renegotiation in an in/out referendum before the end of 2017. I have heard from nearly 2000 residents that want a referendum, which is why I am proud to be a Member of the only major party offering this choice.”
