Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, and member of the 40 Group, is backing new set of policies that have been drawn up by the group ahead of the 2015 General Election.
The 40 Group is made up of 40 most marginal seats won at the 2010 General Election and will form the key battleground of the next election. In order to assist securing a majority for the Conservative Party, the 40 Group has put together 40 new policy ideas that could be implemented after 2015.
A few policy highlights include: Measures that will continue to grow our economy; Simplifying taxation; Regeneration of town centres; Encouraging sport in schools; and reducing the cost of food production. A list of the policies is available here.
Commenting, Mike said: “Many of the policies that the 40 Group have come up with are simply commonsense changes that will improve the lives of people across the country. One example of a sensible change is allowing religious marriages to be conducted outside of churches – something that is already allowed in Scotland.”
Mike added, “Another focus of the 40 Group is strengthening our economy. One of the specific policy ideas that has been put forward is to increase the number of export links with the 54 Commonwealth Countries, as well as the prosperous BRIC nations.”
