Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has once again reiterated that the Government’s economic recovery is working following another fall in unemployment locally.
The Office for National Statistics has confirmed that the number of unemployed claimants in Hove and Portslade in July 2013 was 1,868. Encouragingly, the number of claimants is 263 lower than in July 2012 and 33 lower than in June 2013.
The Government prioritised establishing economic policies early on in its term in order to facilitate the conditions for strong financial growth. As the latest unemployment figures have highlighted, this approach is working.
Commenting, Mike said: “Unemployment has continued to fall in Hove and Portslade which is great news for the local economy as well as the country as a whole. Given the dire straits that our economy was in just a few years ago, it is encouraging that unemployment is continuing to fall. One only has to look to countries like Spain and its incredibly high levels of unemployment to see that prudent control of the economy is paramount.”
