Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has criticised Labour and the Greens on Brighton & Hove City Council, following the recent defeat of Conservative plans for a new school in Central Hove.
Mike’s Conservative council colleagues on Brighton & Hove City Council recently submitted plans for part of the soon-to-be-sold Council HQ, King’s House, to be converted into a three-form-entry primary school. However, Labour and Green united to vote down the new school in Central Hove, suggesting instead that local children should instead be bussed to schools in Portslade and Moulsecoomb.
Commenting, Mike said: “In this instance, it really is a case of Labour and the Greens uniting to defeat plans for a new school in Central Hove. My Conservative colleagues, led by Central Hove Councillor Andrew Wealls, came up with a great plan to provide much needed primary school places, yet this was dismissed. It really is a lost opportunity.”
