Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, gives his full support to the Holocaust Educational Trust and the work that it undertakes around the country.
The Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) aims to educate young people about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learned for today. The Trust works in schools, universities, and the community to raise awareness and understanding of the Holocaust, providing resource materials and an outreach programme for schools. The Trust also trains and supports hundreds of teachers every year in teaching the Holocaust, which the HET successfully campaigned to have taught as part of the National Curriculum. Mike has signed the Holocaust Memorial Day Book of Commitment in the House of Commons every year since becoming a Member of Parliament to honour those killed in the genocide.
The Holocaust was the mass murder of approximately six million Jews during World War II by Nazi Germany throughout the German Reich. It is estimated that two-thirds of the Jewish population of Europe were killed in the Holocaust, including approximately one million children, two million women and three million men. This was mainly carried out in concentration camps, which were set-up specifically for the genocide. For more information, please visit the Holocaust Educational Trust’s website – www.het.org.uk.
Commenting, Mike said: “I congratulate The Holocaust Educational Trust for its excellent work in teaching young people from all backgrounds about the terrible genocide that took place during the Holocaust. The Trust has inspired thousands to consider their responsibilities to their communities and reminds us of the importance of challenging all forms of bigotry. I have previously signed the Holocaust Memorial Day Book of Commitment in the House of Commons and will continue to do so.”
