Following another fall in unemployment locally, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has reiterated that the Government’s economic recovery is working.
The Office for National Statistics has confirmed that the number of unemployed claimants in Hove and Portslade in September 2013 was 1,807. This figure is 278 lower than that of September 2012, and 66 lower than August 2013.
The latest figures represent a rate of 3.3% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64 and highlight that the Government’s strategy to rebuild the economy is coming to fruition. Nationally employment rose by 155,000 to 29.87 million, the biggest total ever recorded.
Commenting, Mike said: “Given the dire straits that our economy was in just a few years ago, it is encouraging that unemployment is continuing to fall. Unemployment has continued to fall in Hove and Portslade which is great news locally and for the country as a whole. It is clearly evident that prudent control of the economy is paramount for a stable economy.”
