Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has welcomed the calling-off of the badger cull pilot and hopes that the Government will listen to alternatives that have been proposed by animal welfare campaigners.

Mike is pleased that Natural England will stop the cull on Saturday 30th November and that it has been postponed until next year. The period will allow more time for campaigners to highlight flaws in the culling approach and press the Government to consider other options.

Mike is a strong supporter of animal welfare and has pledged to vote against any attempt to repeal the Hunting Act. Mike has consistently voted in favour of animal rights and has supported a number of campaigns for better treatment of animals in the UK.

Commenting, Mike said: A break in the cull is obviously welcome news. I hope that this period of reflection can be used to consult more on the alternatives to a cull that will help reduce TB in cattle and that this matter can be discussed again soon in Parliament. My constituents take animal welfare extremely seriously and I am always keen to echo that sentiment when I represent them in the House of Commons.
