Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has reaffirmed his support for an in/out vote on whether or not Britain stays in the EU in 2017.
Friday 8th November was the first debate on the Private Member’s Bill which would commit the Government to a referendum on Britain’s relationship with the EU in 2017. The Bill was introduced by Mike’s colleague James Wharton MP.
The Conservatives are currently the only one of the main three political parties believes the British people deserve a say on the EU. This bill will need the support of either Labour or Lib Dem MPs to pass. For more information on the EU Referendum Bill, please visit www.letbritaindecide.com.
Commenting, Mike said: “Whenever someone asks me why we need to have a referendum on Europe, I highlight the fact that the EU has drastically changed, yet it’s been nearly 40 years since the British people have had a say on our relationship with Europe. We need a new settlement and the people should then have their say on a renegotiation in an in/out referendum before the end of 2017.”
