Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in the House of Commons. The Book honours those who died during the Holocaust as well as honouring the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work to educate young people about what they endured. Mike has also signed EDM 932 (Holocaust Memorial Day) to show his support.
Holocaust Memorial Day, which takes place on Monday 27th January, marks the 69th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau where an estimated 1.1 million people were murdered. In the weeks leading up to and after Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events will be arranged by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country that will remember all the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.
Commenting, Mike said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. I encourage all constituents to mark the day and to join members of my community in the fight against prejudice and intolerance.”
