Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing a Parliamentary Motion which calls for a change to marriage certificates to include Mothers’ names.
Early Day Motion 27 (Mothers’ Names and Marriage Certificates) highlights how marriages certificates still only carry the details of the fathers of the bride and groom. Understandably, calls have been made by people across the country for the law to be updated to include mothers.
Commenting, Mike said: “Giving equal status to mothers on marriage certificates is well overdue. A simple change in the administration of marriages is not only right but will give immense joy to those who are named on these important documents, so I hope that my ministerial colleagues will enact these reforms at the earliest opportunity.”
