CONSERVATIVE SHADOW HOME SECRETARY SUPPORTS GOLDSMID BY-ELECTION CANDIDATE AND TACKLES STREET CRIME IN HOVE

Conservative Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Grayling MP, is in Hove today to support Goldsmid Ward By-election candidate, Andrew Wealls, and to meet local police and residents to discuss street crime.

The Conservative Party has been stressing the need for action on anti-social behaviour and to make those responsible for it be accountable for their actions.

In a busy schedule, Mr Grayling will be visiting Hove Police Station to meet local police and how the Conservatives plan to reduce police bureaucacy, then he will go the George Street to meet shoppers and finally to Hove Station to meet commuters returning from work.

Following this, he will join Andrew Wealls and meet people in Goldsmid Ward.

Mr Grayling's high-profile visit will emphasise the five principles a Conservative Government would employ to reduce street crime:

  • There have to be consequences for every act of antisocial behaviour;
  • The second principle is that we must set very clear expectations for parents with understanding and help for parents of particularly difficult children;
  • The third is that we need to teach children the difference between right and wrong very early in their lives with a much tougher approach to bad behaviour in  schools;
  • The fourth is that we must enforce responsible behaviour towards young people in our society and;
  • The fifth principle is about ensuring effective youth engagement in Britain today.
