South Portslade

Steve Harmer-Strange

Steve is a 48 year old happily married family man and local businessman with three children, two of whom attend local special needs schools. He was borne and educated in Brighton and therefore cares passionately about the future of the city and in particular the health and education of its children. He is currently the Chair of Governors at HillsideSchool which has just achieved an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted inspection across all areas. He is also a governor at Benfield School and represents the special needs schools on the Schools Organisation Committee.

“I am determined to put Portslade on the Brighton and Hove map as a major part of the city and get it recognised for the tremendous community spirit it promotes and the overall contribution it makes to the city. I will endeavour to ensure it receives the necessary financial support to improve it for both the residents and local businesses. I will work towards ensuring that we all get value for money for our Council Tax.”

As a businessman with a base in Portslade, Steve is used to working with and supporting businesses at all levels, from sole traders to large corporate companies. Steve also has a very wide range of skills which he can call on to tackle many types of issues or situation. As an engineer, he has a practical and logical approach to most things and looks for common sense to prevail. As an author, he has written both technical and commercial material and can help people wade through the red tape. As an analyst he can make sound judgements on the information put in front of him. He is also strong under pressure having served his country in the Falklands and Gulf wars. But above all, his ethos is all about helping people and he does a lot of charitable and community work and can frequently be seen in and around the community. Steve says:

“It is an honour and a privilege to represent the people of South Portslade.”
