Stanford

Vanessa Brown

I was brought up in Hove and have lived here for most of my life. I care passionately about the area. I am married and have three grown up sons all of whom were educated locally. I used to be a primary school teacher until I stopped to concentrate on my Council commitments.

I was elected a member of Hove Borough Council in 1995 and I have been a member of Brighton and Hove Unitary Authority since its inception. I have represented Stanford Ward, where I live, for the last eight years.

I am a Deputy Leader of the Conservative Group. I am Chair of the Children, Families and Schools and The Children and Young Peoples Trust. I am Vice Chair of the Policy and Resources Committee which is the major policy making committee and a member of the Culture Committee. I represent the Council at the Local Government Association.

Over the years I have been connected with many community groups and associations. At the present time I am part of the Local Action Team for Stanford Ward with the police and local residents. I am Chairman of the GoldstoneValley Residents Association and Acting Chair of Creating Futures. I represent the Council on the Board of the Brighton Dome and Festival and I am a member of the Quality and Curriculum Committee at BHASVIC.
