Mike has urged members of the public to exercise caution when donating money to charity this Christmas.
The Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB) has been highlighting to MPs that bogus charity bag collections are costing UK charities up to £50 million a year. In one sample, one in ten charity collection bags were found to be bogus. The FRSB aims to raise public awareness on this issue and to uphold public trust and confidence in charitable giving.
Commenting, Mike said: “Understandably people are very generous when donating to charities over the festive season. Yet residents should be aware that not everyone collecting money is a genuine collector. I hope that my constituents will continue to support charities over Christmas whilst exercising caution and good judgement when doing so.”
