Mike has called on residents to protect themselves and small businesses by rejecting fake goods this Christmas.

Mike recently attended the Real Deal campaign in Parliament. The Real Deal campaign is a cross-sector partnership initiative that brings together local authority trading standards services, market operators and traders, industry groups, and copyright and trademark owners to combat the trade in fake goods. Mike wants to call attention to the fact that local businesses rely on intellectual property for their success, and their ability to create jobs and contribute to the local economy is damaged enormously by the fake goods trade.

Commenting, Mike said: When money is tight it may be tempting to try to save a few pounds by buying knock-off goods, but the consequences are at best disappointment and at worst serious injury. These goods are not fit for purpose and are often dangerous. Im calling on Brighton & Hove City Council to sign up to the Real Deal campaign and work with market regulators and trading standards to stop the highly damaging trade in poor-quality and potentially dangerous goods.
