Mike today announced that he supports Government measures to curb the compensation and health and safety cultures that plague the small and medium-sized enterprises in his constituency.
The Government has announced changes to health and safety law that mean that businesses are no longer automatically assumed to be at fault for civil claims. Furthermore, the Government will place a cap on the amount that lawyers can earn from small-value personal injury claims so that businesses don’t have to live in fear of being sued over trivial claims for excessive amounts.
Ministers have confirmed that a £1 billion Business Finance Partnership will be available to businesses as an additional source of credit. This fund will be operated by HM Treasury, and not by banks, so that the Government can directly support our local thriving business community.
Commenting, Mike said: “At this difficult time, I am proud to endorse the Government’s package of policies to make it easy for companies to do business. This contrasts with the alarming and damaging attitude that the Green Party is currently taking by increasing parking rates and raising taxes. I support our local businesses and will do all in my power to champion their cause.”
