Mike is hosting a debate in Parliament tomorrow on the subject of ‘Secondary Ticketing’ – the act of reselling tickets by ticket touts for admission to events such as concerts.
Mike secured the debate to strengthen the development of Government legislation on the topic and to highlight the importance of Intellectual Property Rights to artists. The news has been welcomed by musicians in Brighton & Hove including young band members who are just getting started in the industry.
Commenting, Mike said: “A performance belongs to an artist, and that artist has the right to be in control of the terms of that performance. The creative person should at all times be able to retain control of how the end product is produced, marketed and used. Ticket touts do nothing to add to our creative industries in terms of revenue and profits to those putting on shows. It is for this reason that I am hosting a debate in Parliament on this important issue.”
