Mike Probes Government on Whaling Resolution at IWC

Mike has submitted a Parliamentary Question on whether or not the Government supports Monaco’s Resolution on Whaling at the 64th Annual Meeting of the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

The resolution asks for the UN General Assembly to become involved, to effectively extend the remit of the IWC, in the hope of putting pressure on countries like Canada. Mike tabled a question asking the Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs: Whether the Government supports the Resolution on Highly Migratory Cetaceans and Ocean Governance introduced by Monaco at this year’s IWC.

Commenting, Mike said: “I want to reiterate that whaling is a barbaric practice. Britain does and should lead the way in its condemnation of whaling so I hope that it will support this resolution. I know that most residents in Hove and Portslade would be disgusted by the cruel and unsustainable realities of mass whale killing.”
