Mike is backing a Parliamentary Motion which highlights the importance of independent shops and pubs to our economy.
Early Day Motion 408 calls on the Government to ease planning regulations so that communities can support independent shops and pubs. Concerned about the decline of the traditional high street, once a haven of independent shops, the Government commissioned Mary Portas to conduct a review on how to reverse this trend.
Commenting, Mike said: “Independent shops and pubs play a vital role in shaping our communities. I love the unique character of the local pubs and shopping streets in Hove and Portslade. It seems that rarely a week goes by without a new addition to our eclectic array of individual enterprises that adorn our city. However, I know that it is a difficult time for small businesses generally, so we must do all that we can to help these valuable local amenities.”
