Mike Backs Traveller Petition

Mike Weatherley, Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing a petition which has been submitted by city resident Karen Miles in response to Green Party plans for yet another traveller site on the ‘protected’ South Downs National Park.

Following the Greens’ proposals for the new traveller site, Mike held a public meeting which was attended by over 500 local residents. His own petition against the site collected over 1,500 signatures and was submitted to Brighton & Hove City Council. Mike has pledged to help residents fight during the official consultation for the site and when the Green Council submits its application to the South Downs National Park Authority. Local resident Karen Miles has now submitted her own petition against the site, which is available to sign here.

Commenting, Mike said: “I am keen to draw attention to a local petition that I am backing which is against the Green Party building more traveller sites on our glorious South Downs National Park. These plans are wrong. If one of my constituents wanted to build a brand new house on the National Park, they obviously wouldn’t be allowed. The same rules should apply to everybody.”
