Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed calls from the public for a debate on the imminent badger cull.

Mike, along with a selection of cross-party of MPs, spoke out last week during a Backbench Business Committee meeting for the need for a full debate on this important issue. The debate will be held in the Chamber of the House of Commons on Thursday 25th October.

Mike has continued to be an advocate of animal welfare since he was elected in 2010. He argued against the repealing of the 2004 Hunting Act; he supported the ban on wild animals in circuses; and he has signed several Early Day Motions against testing household and cosmetic products on animals.

Commenting, Mike said: I look forward to this debate as the badger cull has yet to be proven as the best way to tackle the problem of bovine TB. More should be done to investigate a vaccination programme, particularly as there is scientific evidence promoting vaccines. The residents of Hove and Portslade know that I have consistently campaigned on animal welfare issues since being elected as a Member of Parliament.
