Mike Weatherley, Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has called on landlords across Brighton & Hove to support a charity drive to makeover empty retail space and help volunteers to gain valuable skills.
Charities vInspired and Retail Trust are training 30 local 16-25 year-olds to renovate an empty shop in Brighton & Hove in November with the aim of transforming the disused space into a creative retail shop at the heart of the community while building the volunteers’ skills and experience.
The project – Retail Ready People – is running a series of interactive workshops to help young people develop retail skills. Volunteers will then have the opportunity to put their skills into action, by transforming an empty shop to a creative retail space at the heart of their community. To donate an empty shop in the city or for more information contact Danielle Domanski, Special Projects Manager, on 07775 001024 or email email@example.com.
Commenting, Mike said: “Brighton & Hove has been given the unique opportunity to use empty spaces in a meaningful way. I am urging any property owners and agents who can help to contact vInspired to discuss how they can lend their support to this excellent opportunity. Projects like this are a fantastic way to engage a small community, particularly young people, for the benefit of society as a whole.”
