Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is demanding answers from Sussex Police after another break-in in his Hove constituency has been allowed to take place unchallenged.

Late in the evening on Friday 23rd November, a neighbour of a former school in The Drive witnessed a group of people breaking into the building and immediately called the police. After around 20 minutes, a couple of PCSOs turned up and spoke to the vigilant neighbour who witnessed the incident and identified those who were responsible for the crime.

However, neighbours were shocked and surprised to find the same individuals in the building causing damage. Mikes constituent called the police to ask why the criminals had not been arrested, and is yet to receive a satisfactory reply. Over the weekend, the squatters had engaged in a campaign of destruction. Details of the damage that has been caused by the squatters is available here.

Commenting, Mike said: It is absolutely astonishing that a law-abiding resident can report a crime and yet the police fail to take any action. I will be raising my grave concerns with Sussex Police and demanding answers as to why action was not taken in this case. The owners of the building have been left with a bill of thousands of pounds to repair the damage caused by these squatters on their weekend of destruction by the sea. This is the latest in a long line of crimes that police on the street, who join the service to catch criminals, are prevented from investigating by the current soft-touch approach that my constituents are forced to endure.
