Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is supporting Chance to be Chancellor, a national competition for schools which aims to encourage economic awareness among young people.

Mike is calling again on schools in Hove and Portslade to take up the challenge of putting together the nations budget. Chance to be Chancellor is organised by the Citizenship Foundation as part of the ‘Paying for It’ programme, which develops economic awareness in schools across the UK. Chance to be Chancellor is open to all 14-18 year olds, where participants get to grapple with issues facing the Chancellor ahead of the Budget in March, by choosing from a selection of real tax and public spending policies across key areas of the economy.

Students can go one step further and make a case for their own Budget and enter into a national competition with the chance to win the latest iPad. All entries to Chance to be Chancellor 2013 must be submitted online by Friday 15th February. Details on how to enter are available at www.chancetobechancellor.org.uk.

Commenting, Mike said: Chance to be Chancellor is a fantastic way of bringing the current economic challenges into schools in Hove and Portslade. Once again, I hope that as many students as possible in Hove and Portslade will get involved and submit their views as to the kind of policies they what to see in the Budget.
