Humanist Marriage Amendment Supported by Mike

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed an amendment to the Marriage(Same Sex Couples) Bill that will allow humanist celebrants to conduct marriages for all couples.

Mike recently wrote to Helen Grant MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Equalities, as the Bill progresses through committee stage, to highlight his support for the amendment that has been tabled by Stephen Williams MP. For more information on Humanist Marriages, click here.

Commenting Mike said, The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill is a fantastic step forward for marriage equality for same-sex couples, so it is logical that this should be extended to include humanist weddings as well. Currently humanist ceremonies carry no legal status and must be supplemented by civil marriage, which in the face of this new law is just unfair.
