Following calls to improve first aid skills by health experts, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing an Early Day Motion (EDM) that calls for basic first aid training to be included in the National Curriculum.
EDM 4 – (First Aid in the National Curriculum) draws attention to the benefits of increasing the awareness of first aid amongst school-aged children and has received cross-party support. The motion calls on the Government to consider ways of promoting first aid education in the hope that it will help save lives.
Commenting, Mike said: “First aid is an incredibly valuable life skill that would be enormously helpful for generations of children to learn at school. Given the importance of being able to help fellow citizens in an emergency, I cannot see any logical reason for not supporting this sensible parliamentary motion.”
