Homophobia has No Place in Football, says Mike

Following a report on homophobia at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club matches, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has condemned the use of anti-gay chants and slurs by opposition fans.

Fans of Brighton & Hove Albion have reported to the Football Association (FA) that they are on the receiving end of homophobic remarks at more than half of the games that Brighton & Hove Albion play. Mike has condemned the continued abuse and is backing the Football V Homophobia campaign, an international initiative that aims to rid football of homophobia. For more information, click here.

Commenting, Mike said, “I am shocked that in 2013 homophobia is still rife at football matches across the country, but particularly against the fans and players of Brighton & Hove Albion. I don’t see any reason why all professional football clubs cannot sign up to the Football V Homophobia campaign and seriously address this offensive behaviour. Homophobic comments of any kind are totally unacceptable and have no place in sport or civilised society.”
