Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing an Early Day Motion (EDM) that highlights the general decline of polar bears and calls for their protection level to be increased so that they cannot be hunted for export.

EDM 825 (Polar Bears and Cites Appendix I) draws attention to the threat to polar bears in the Arctic from global warming and hunters. Mike is a strong supporter of animal welfare. He has consistently voted in favour of animal rights and has supported a number of campaigns for better treatment of animals in the UK.

Commenting, Mike said: As a strong supporter of animal welfare, I was very happy to support this motion which calls for greater protection for polar bears. With a species that is in decline, it seems ridiculous that it is currently permitted to allow them to be hunted for export. I hope that with greater protection the number of bears will level out and one day increase.
