Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has backed economic reforms that came into force this week, which will cut taxes for millions of hard-working people across the country.
As a result of the Government’s changes to income tax, 24 million people across Britain will be paying less tax from 6th April, as the threshold is raised to Ł9,440. Together with previous tax cuts, 2.2 million people across the country have been brought out of income tax altogether – including an estimated 3,156 who live in Hove and Portslade.
Commenting, Mike said: “Cutting taxes so that people are given a choice as to how to spend their own money is one of the principal tenets of Conservative Party policy, so I am thrilled that 37,472 of my constituents will be better off as a direct result of raising the income tax threshold. I am confident that as the Government’s policies come to fruition, our economy will go from strength to strength.”
