Following revelations that Brighton & Hove City Council knew more than it previously admitted to over the proposed BHASVIC Field development, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is calling for Green Councillors to come clean about what was known and when.
In an exclusive revelation in local newspaper The Argus, it was reported that in a letter to Penny Thompson, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove City Council, Lord Nash, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools, has claimed that any suggestion that the Department for Education (DfE) imposed this decision on the local authority is inaccurate, claiming that a number of meetings were held between officials from the Green council and the DfE before a decision was reached.
Commenting, Mike said: It is of deep concern that residents may have been misled by the Green Administration over this important matter. Sadly for children across the city, the Green administration is publicly opposed to new schools. Yet such a stance has no place in the real world. They pandered to the extreme ideological elements in their own party publicly, yet acted differently behind the scenes. Green Councillors must come clean as to what exactly the decision process was, and why they denied involvement at the time.
