Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing his Conservative colleagues on Brighton & Hove City Council in using a central Government funding boost to get empty homes back into use.
The Government has allocated a further £500,000 to tackle empty private sector housing. This funding brings the total allocation to tackle empty homes in Brighton & Hove up to £1.2 million. The funding is used to refurbish long-term empty properties which are then leased back to the Council as temporary accommodation for residents in severe housing need. It is hoped that the money will help to bring 71 empty properties back into use in this way over the next two years.
Commenting, Mike said: I am pleased that the Government is assisting in getting empty properties in Brighton & Hove back into use. My Conservative colleagues on Brighton & Hove City Council have welcomed this additional funding, which will help some of the most vulnerable in our community.
