Mike Backs Calls for National Childrens Radio

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is backing a campaign for a non-commercial radio station with programming exclusively for children.

Mike has signed Early Day Motion (EDM) 378 (Non-Commercial National Radio Station for Children) that highlights the benefits to children of specialist radio programming, which has recently seen a dramatic reduction in air time despite an obvious audience.

Commenting Mike said, I am a huge fan of radio as a medium for both entertainment and education. Given how much of the BBCs output is aimed at adults, I think that a dedicated childrens radio station is an excellent idea. Despite enormous leaps in technology, radio remains incredibly popular, but there certainly does appear to be a gap in the provision of programming aimed at children, which is why I am supporting this Parliamentary motion.
