Motorists Shouldn’t Pay the Tab for Council Profligacy

Following quite unexpected reports that Brighton & Hove City Council levies some of the highest stealth taxes in the country, Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has slammed the Left-Wing administration for forcing motorists to subsidise its profligate spending programmes.

Reports today highlight that councils across the country are making huge profits on the back of motorists and that Brighton & Hove City Council made a whopping Ł14.4m profit on parking services in 2011/2012.

Commenting, Mike said: “It is unacceptable that Left-Wing councillors from Brighton & Hove City Council are forcing motorists to fund their crackpot initiatives through a series of stealth taxes. The council should be open and honest about the fact that they have a deficit and are targeting motorists to plug this gap. Quite understandably, motorists will not put up with the status quo indefinitely.”
