Mike Backs Parliamentary Motion on Localism

Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has signed a parliamentary motion which calls for greater local control for cities around the country.

Early Day Motion 684 (Local Government Fiscal Devolution and Freedom) highlights a cross-party desire for decentralised fiscal reform in a campaign by the Core Cities Group, the Mayor of London and London Councils. It is hoped that reforms will provide opportunities for tailored local growth plans and, overall, save money.

Commenting, Mike said: “The Government has launched an exciting and well overdue programme for devolving power to local communities. However, the sensible proposals in the campaign for decentralised fiscal reform should be seriously considered by Ministers as we still do not have enough local control of our institutions, particularly when it comes to finance.”
