Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, is supporting a new campaign by Mankind, a Brighton & Hove charity for male victims of sexual abuse, in order to help people address and prevent abuse.
Since 2000, Mankind, based in Hove, has been helping men from the Brighton & Hove area who have been victims of childhood or adult sexual abuse and assault. The new campaign, Squaring up to Sexual Abuse, aims to address three key questions: ‘How do we talk to our children about sexual abuse?’ ‘What can we do if someone tells us that they have been / are being sexually abused?’ and ‘What should we do if we suspect sexual abuse is happening?’ For more information on Mankind’s Squaring up to Sexual Abuse campaign, click here.
Commenting, Mike said: “Mankind is an essential local charity that works with male victims of abuse. The new campaign, Squaring up to Sexual Abuse, aims to help draw attention to sexual abuse and assault against men and certainly has my full support. As well as looking for financial support to help provide counselling services, Mankind is also hoping to challenge stereotypes and make this issue something that people feel they can openly discuss.”
