Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove & Portslade, has backed an Early Day Motion (EDM) that calls for people with disabilities to be specifically included in international development programmes.
EDM 814 draws attention to the fact that over a billion people worldwide have some kind of disability, yet too few benefit from international aid programmes. The parliamentary motion highlights the benefits of including people with disabilities across the world and calls for the Government to push for international reforms.
Commenting, Mike said: “International aid is an important part of Government spending and so it is quite right that pushing for the inclusion of people with disabilities is made a priority. Cross-party motions such as this are an important and helpful way to highlight issues that might otherwise not get the attention that they deserve.”
