Mike Weatherley, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Hove and Portslade, has welcomed new figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in his constituency has fallen by 540 over the past year.
The Office for National Statistics has confirmed that the number of unemployed claimants in Hove and Portslade in April 2014 was 1,534. Since 2010 the number of people on unemployment benefits has fallen by 863.
Commenting, Mike said: “It’s great news there are now 540 fewer people on unemployment benefit in Hove and Portslade over the last year. That’s 540 people no longer relying on benefits to get by, with a more secure, brighter future ahead of them. It’s clear the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan is working, and the foundations of a broad-based recovery are in place.”
