Permit Pollution Tax hits B&H
Permit Pollution Tax hits B&H

Conservative Councillors at Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee today raised concerns about the huge hidden price increases in Labour’s parking fees and charges that raked in some £22m at last count.

50% Increase in Just 13 Months

Labour are hiking up visitor permits in controlled parking zones by a staggering 16.7% – 28.6% (equaling a 50% increase in just 13 months).

Labour…Want Less Resident Visitors

Conservative spokesperson Cllr. Lee Wares said “Justification for these rises was to make visitor parking charges more reflective of parking meter charges. The whole point of visitor permits is to help residents’ visitors. Visitors are already rationed, now they will pay much more. Labour claim it is to reduce demand meaning they want less resident visitors”.

Permit Pollution Tax on Captive Residents, Businesses, & Traders

Residents, businesses and traders with higher emission vehicles will see their permits rise by 25%. Cllr Wares said “Anything that improves air quality must be welcomed, but this increase is highly discriminatory and unfair. Traders permits will rise from £700 to £875. Only permit holders will be penalised and it doesn’t affect anybody else in the City such as companies using trucks, lorries and delivery vehicles or other residents, commuters or visitors. Residents will have no time to prepare and those who cannot afford to change their vehicles, will be hardest hit. This is a “Permit Pollution Tax” aimed at captive residents, business and traders”.
