Mike was a career civil servant and former diplomat, whose appointments included Ambassador to Slovakia, Deputy High Commissioner for Western India, and Consul General in the south-eastern USA, based in Atlanta. His other postings included New Delhi, Moscow, Singapore, Brussels and Riga. He also spent two years as a Press Officer in the Prime Minister’s Office, working under Sir Bernard Ingham during Margaret Thatcher’s premiership. He was appointed as an Officer in the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1993.
Mike has been a resident of Brighton since 1977. Since his retirement in 2005 he has been a keen Rambler, and was Chairman of Brighton Ramblers for five years (2012 to 2017). He still leads walks, and for several years was also a former Healthwalk leader.
Mike joined the Conservatives in 2021 and became Deputy Chairman (Membership) the following year.
